Fargate Sheffield in the snow 1907. Street scene
From Bessie Daynes' postcard album dated 1907.
Snowy street scene october 1907. Fargate, Sheffield.
Postcard is adressed to a Mrs Buck c/o Mrs Field, Upper Hellesdow, Nr Norwich, Norfolk. Sent from Derbyshire by E.D. who says 'Hope you are all well. You will be surprised to hear I am staying in Sheffield. Am enjoying myself very much. I am going to ?Syria on monday & will write soon. With love E.D.'
Street scene - wide snowy street. The huge Albany Hotel on the right. Looks like a Victorian war memorial on the left. The central reservation has a line of very tall fine wrought iron lamposts....which don't seem to have any lamp lights.
This street must still exist. Can anyone who knows Fargate in Sheffield upload a view of it as it is today. I'd be fascinated to see how it's changed.
Who was Bessie Daynes? Was she related to the people who sent and received these postcards. How did she get them?
None of the postcards is adressed to her. Only one bears the name Bessie and she was the sendee.
The date range for the postcard collection is 1903 through to 1936.
