SS Leicestershire in Marsailles Harbour Sept6 1924
From Florence's photo archive. Don't know the pertinence of this ship to Florence's story. This photo is dated by Florence as Sept 6th 1924 in Marsailles harbour...two years after she first arrived in Ceylon.
I believe Florence (then Harvey) sailed to Ceylon aboard the S.S. Derbyshire to marry Stuart Champion-Jones at St.Andrews Church, Colpetty on 22nd October 1920.
Florence was given away by Mr Herbert B.Paine of Degalessa, Yatyantoat. Best man Mr H.W.Gordon of Matale.
Just a few persons present none of her family. Mr & Mrs Herbert B Paine, Mr M.J.Paine, Mr & Mrs E.W.Ellis, Mr & Mrs J.Mackenzie, Mrs John Walker, Mrs MacMichael, Messrs A.T.Sydney Smith, Rupert H.Webb and P York Champion.
There are no photos of the wedding itself but there is a photo of a leafy arch the workmen and families made for them to welcome them to their bungalow.
The reception was held at the Galle Face Hotel, Colpetty.

The mystery, history and Archive of the Harveys of Bristol, a wealthy Victorian family 1866 to 1937.
The mystery is how this original personal family archive belonging to Florence Harvey came to be found in my deceased mother's house in Essex ten years ago.
Florence was living in Sri Lanka in the 1930's so how did it arrive in England and why did my mother have it?
My great aunt may have brought it back to England but why was it not returned to the Harvey family?
Does this Victorian family not have descendents to whom it could have been returned?
Why do the documents, archives and photos cease about 1937 when Florence Harvey's mother died?
The Harvey family have no connection to my own family.
It is our intention to return the Harvey family archive to Florence's descendents if they can be found.
Read their story on my eBay blog jeannchris and see their images here through time from 1866 to 1937.
