Unknown Victorian matron. c.1890's
Nothing known of this late Victorian lady.
She wears a typical black high neck dress with lace collar and leg of mutton sleeves and what might be a small cameo brooch and a white lacy bonnet. On her ears she wears what look to be large possibly round jet drop earrings. She wears a wedding ring.
The dress is quite ornate with a front panel of taffeta and possibly black beading.
She is aged about fifty I'd guess although the photo is not a good quality one expected of photos of this type at this time.
She looks a calm lady with a kind expression. Is she your ancestor? Does she have the look of one of your relatives?

Whose families are these?
A series of old photographic studio photos of unknown families.
All of these old photos were bought 15 years ago to use primarily as shop window dressing.
We now would like to re-unite them with their descendents. Absoluteley priceless for any family archive.....check your old folks photo albums ; are these families featured there.
It never ceases to amaze me how irreplaceable old family portraits like these become lost, or sold off because no-one in the family wants them.
Look at the facial features. Are they similar to your own family. Facial features echo down the generations. My features are almost identical to my great great grandma Sarah...my sisters to our great grandma Louisa.
