Winifred Cleaver as a young woman, in her early twenties, with
close friends.
Who is the man she is arm in arm with. Who are the other couple.
Winifred travelled to many countries as nanny to young
children and later English teacher mostly in Egypt.
She didn't marry and nothing is known of her very early adult life.
This photo may have
been taken in Egypt. She travelled to the Far East, Japan we think, India, Kuwait and Ceylon.
She later became tutor to a young Kuwaiti prince
and princess.

Miss Winifred Florence Cleaver born 29th June 1905 Nanny to wealthy families
Born in Islington London, one of six siblings. father a builders labourer, mother a laundress.
in 1901 the family lived at 74 St.James Road,Islington,London.
aged 23 she set sail from London to Bombay. In 1932 sailed from London to Singapore twice and in 1936 from London to Bombay again.
At some time she took passage to Egypt and China but no record.
She travelled as nanny to a number of wealthy families. Nothing is known of the names of these families.
She spent all of her adult life as a nanny and then later as a teacher in Egypt.She loved caring for other peoples' children whom she adored. This photo shows her in the centre of a family group none of whom are known other than her charge Gillian, the littlest girl in the front row. The rest of the children are known to be her sisters and cousins. She spent time in India with Gillian's family in the 1920's.
But who are the rest of the family group?
It is thought that Winifred cared for Gillian until she was aged about ten years old.
I am very interested to know who the rest of the family group are, particularly their relationship to Gillian and whether there remain memories or photos of my Great Aunt Winifred Cleaver during this time.
