c1900's Courtenay Harvey. ?school group Sydenham
Can anyone identify this group? Is it school or church....or church school. circa early 1900's
The photo was taken by a photographer Gertrude Mayhew of Sydenham ( Kent )
Courtenay Harvey is standing in the 3rd row back - first right.
Are these young boys schoolboys or choristers.
The elderly man centre waving a cane....he dosn't appear to be a cleric, the men are wearing collars and ties. as are the boys and wearing white cassocks.
The men look a grim lot, some are almost scary.
What is this photo about?
It's doubtful Courtenay Harvey was a tutor. Why is he in the photo with these young boys ..one of whom has his hands resting on Courtenay's shoulders. The boy to his left has his hands resting on the adult's shoulders next to Courtenay.
But not the other boys in the back row.
it is almost certain that Courtenay, the youngest of the Harvey siblings was gay and did not marry.
Courtenay was born in 1884 and he looks to be mid thirties in this photo.
The boys, the men, the uniform. Can anyone tell me anything about this photo?

The mystery, history and Archive of the Harveys of Bristol, a wealthy Victorian family 1866 to 1937.
The mystery is how this original personal family archive belonging to Florence Harvey came to be found in my deceased mother's house in Essex ten years ago.
Florence was living in Sri Lanka in the 1930's so how did it arrive in England and why did my mother have it?
My great aunt may have brought it back to England but why was it not returned to the Harvey family?
Does this Victorian family not have descendents to whom it could have been returned?
Why do the documents, archives and photos cease about 1937 when Florence Harvey's mother died?
The Harvey family have no connection to my own family.
It is our intention to return the Harvey family archive to Florence's descendents if they can be found.
Read their story on my eBay blog jeannchris and see their images here through time from 1866 to 1937.
